Road Train

What tours are available?

There are several routes that leave from the centre of Ponta Delgada:

Historic: this route tours many of the city's emblematic/historic points

Gardens: a visit to many of the most beautiful gardens in the city

Beaches: a relaxing tour along the southern coast of Ponta Delgada

Historic + Plantation: this route tours many of the city's emblematic/historic points, and includes a guided tour of a pineapple plantation

Historic + Degustation: this route tours many of the city's emblematic/historic points and includes the right to a small exhibition/tasting of regional products at Hotel Gaivota

What are the tours departing time?

We have tours everyday, on the following times:

Historic: 10:30 and 13:30

Gardens: 09:30, 11:30 (available during the low season) and 14:30

Beaches: 11:30 (the beach routes/itineraries are only available during the summer high season)

Historic + Plantation: 15:30

Historic + Degustation: upon reservation

Note: the management of Lagarta - Animação Turística reserves the right to change these schedules owing to weather conditions, logistical problems or demand conditions.

Where is the starting point of the tours?

All tours, except the special reservations (with their own designated starting points), start and end at the Lagarta kiosk located along the coastal avenue, next to the "Campo de São Francisco" (the square located opposite the historic fort of São Brás).

Where can I buy tickets?

You may buy tickets in advance on our website or at our kiosk before the beginning of a tour.

Office hours: Daily between 09:00 and 17:00.

What do I need to take with me?

Participants are encouraged to bring headphones and a smartphone to listen to our audio guide. We also have headphones for sale and small tablets (free for use) for those who do not have a smart phone. And, of course, a camera if you want to immortalize your trip.

What is the cost of a ticket? Are there discounts for children or seniors?

Most circuits are €8 per person. The exceptions are the historic tour which includes visit to the pineapple plantation (9€ per person) and the degustation experience, which is upon request.

We offer special prices for groups of 10 people or more, and have discounts for children, seniors or individuals who request more than one tour during their experience. Children up to 2 years of age travel free of charge.

How long is the tour?
On average, the circuits take about 50 minutes, with the exception of circuits that include a visit to a pineapple plantation or tasting of regional products (which may take an hour and 30 minutes).

Can I leave or join the tour in the middle of the circuit?
Unfortunately no. With the exception of the tour that includes a visit to the pineapple plantation or degustation of regional products, the circuits do not allow stops, nor are passengers permitted to join or leave in the middle of the route. Boarding and exiting the tours are only carried out at the kiosk.

Do I have to book in advance?

No reservations are required, but are subject to availability.

What forms of payment may I use?

On the website: in the accepted online payment methods indicated

At the kiosk: cash only

Reservations made in advance: by bank transfer, before the tour date.

Is there any additional information on tours?

We currently have an audio guide recording in Portuguese and English that explains the locations along the circuits.

May I take photos during the tour?

Yes, taking pictures is allowed and encouraged during our tours! We invite our participants to share their photos with our social media accounts:

Is your road train a covered or open-air service?

In fact, Lagarta - Animação Turística has two road trains, one with covered carriages and the other with open-air carriages.

Can I bring something to eat or drink during the tour?
Yes. Also, if you prefer, you can buy something at our kiosk.

Is the road train prepared for people with limited mobility?

Unfortunately, our road train does not have ramps or seat belts. However, during the circuit there is no limitation, as the visitor is always seated.

Strollers are also allowed on the train or, if you prefer, you can leave them at our kiosk for security.

What is the maximum capacity of your train?

Open-air carriage road train: 30 adults

Covered carriage road train: 45 adults

Note: When booking school or childrens’ groups these capacity limits may vary.

In which areas of São Miguel do you accept reservations?

We currently accept reservations across the island as long as the train can make the route.

Due to the size of the train, the management only confirms the reservation after testing the intended route to ensure that it is doable.

Is it possible to decorate the road train?
Yes. As long as it does not damage it.

If I want to book the road train for an event how can I pay?

For both customized events, it is necessary to make a initial 20% deposit in to ensure the reservation is confirmed.

This deposit is not refundable.

What if I can't make the reservation on booked date?

You should notify us as early as possible and, if you wish, we may schedule another day. If this is not possible, a refund of 80% of the total reservation amount will be refunded.

Limousine Service

What is the limousine capacity?

The limousine can carry eight people and the chauffeur.

What is the minimum duration/time that can I book?

The minimum time the limousine can be booked is one hour. This time includes the journey and return time along the intended route and any time associated with waiting.

What is included when I make a reservation?

In order to make the most of your experience, the service includes champagne and water.

Do you have a photographer service?

Yes. But, as it is a partnership between Lagarta - Animação Turística and the contracted photographer, the service is conditioned by the photographer's availability during the month. Further, the contracted amount does not include the photography service if a discount is applied.

Do you have pre-prepared circuits available?

We can prepare several experiences for you to enjoy our service, which include, for example, a romantic journey at night.

In which areas of São Miguel do you accept reservations?

We currently accept reservations across the island as long as the limousine can do the circuit. Due to the size of the limousine, the management of Lagarta - Animação Turística will only confirm the reservation after testing the route, ensuring the safety of the driver and passengers.

If I want to book the Limousine for an event, how can I pay?

Whether predefined or custom activities, the contractor must pay 20% of the amount before we confirm the reservation. This amount is non-refundable. The remaining amount is required on the day of the event.

What if I can not make the reservation on the scheduled date?

Contractors must give advance notice and, if possible, provide an alternative date for the tour to take place. If this is not possible, 80% of the total amount of the reservation will be refunded.
